This book is one of my favorite children's books. It is hilarious! I have a couple of my own copies and give it as a gift all of the time. It is a picture book, but have had 2nd and 3rd graders read it too, just because it is so funny and they "get it".

I already know that we love this book. My daughter read her copy so much it started falling apart. I bought a copy described as "very good condition" there is stickers on the front cover. And a lot of pages are separated from the binding. I bought this for my 2 year old son. He wont think about keeping the pages with the book. I'm very disappointed.

This is a great book but it arrived badly bent in the mail. Since it was a gift and I didn't have time to return and exchange it, I had to accept it. Very frustrating

Told from the perspective of a terrified five-year-old, Parts is the story of a boy discovering the wonders (and grossness) of the human body. When he notices his hair is falling out, fuzz is popping out of his belly button, and he's losing skin, he begins to panic, thinking the glue that holds his body together is failing and he's falling apart.

He imagines scenarios where his body finally fails altogether and he uses his father's masking tape to hold himself together. Probably the most amusing part of the book is the boy's parents looking on helplessly as he asks why they didn't tell him about these things. His mother is cradling a "Parenting for Beginners" book under her arm, reminding us that parents truly learn as we go and don't always have all the answers.

The illustrations are colorful and fun, with characters with exaggerated features. They're very fitting, since to the young boy, everything is exaggerated. It's a cute introduction to the more disgusting topics of human anatomy, including boogers and ear wax. Of course, my two boys love it and want to make it part of our permanent collection. More squeamish kids will probably enjoy the "gross out" factor.

Sadly, this hasn't gone on to become one of the most famous books in children's literature, like the Cat in the Hat or the Pokey Little Puppy. It is quite underrated and there are few people who know about its existence. However, let me be the first to tell you that there is simply no reason for this and that there's something that you can do to put a stop to this book's lack of notoriety.

The story has everything. It has humor, colorful illustrations, and even living toys to increase the whimsy who follow their little owner around--what kid wouldn't like that? That is personally my favorite feature! Aside from that, it shows literal-minded children that the human body cannot fall apart, like toys or machines do. It is intended to cure any phobias of that, and also entertains them greatly along the way! Fortunately, there are two other books in this amazing trilogy, so buy them right away as well!

Now, as I was mentioning earlier, this book suffers from a lack of fame. Here is what you can do to help that: scroll up the page and buy it now, or hurry to the nearest store or website that you know can help you. Then witness the magic. You will love it!

In this book, a boy is confused about his body. He finds belly button lint, sees a grey mass fall out of his nose, and his tooth was loose. The boy began to panic thinking that is body was falling apart. His parents reassured him that it was all normal.

Parts is a great book because it has the "gross factor." My children are fascinated by boogers and "raisin toes" so I believe this book will intrigue almost every young child.

In the classroom, I would use this book as an opener for a human body unit. Encouraging children to research fascinating human body facts would be a great activity after reading this book. In addition, a KWL chart, gathering information children know, want to know, and learned from the experience would be a great extension idea.

My 2-year-old daughter loves this book so much that she keeps bringing it to me and simply says "Parts". This is a pretty gross book in a sense of the stuff this poor kid imagines is happening to him [he thinks he is coming apart through various bodily emissions/functions], like losing a tooth, lint in the bellybutton, you get the idea. Reading the other reviews, the consensus seems to be that kids love this book, and I guess Tedd Arnold deserves kudos for being able to tap into what appeals to kids and turning out a winning book. The illustrations are simple, yet cute despite the gross factor. The text doesn't exactly follow rhyming conventions but it works, and has a sing-songy flow to it. The fact that my little one loves it makes it a winner in my book too!

I myself and an author for children and was worried when I first checked out a Fly Guy book because I just wasn't too impressed. I had heard of Mr Arnold and wondered if perhaps MY brain was missing a few parts because I knew he was successful. PARTS was the third of his books I peeped at and I see now that yes Mr Arnold is a very talented storyteller indeed, as well as a fantastic illustrator!

It has been ages since a book for children has come alive for kids and parents alike. Appealing to that bit of grossness that dwells within, this imaginative story will have you flipping the pages to experience this child's discoveries. Stray hairs, lint in his navel and a tiny bit of peeling skin convince him that something dire is happening. The tenderness his parents display as they reassure him this is all a part of normal life is warm and wonderful. With all of that, a surprise ending ... a sequel perhaps? Perfect for reading aloud. 5.5 stars!!

This is a fun book for boys ages 4-8. The rhyming verses are clever and well-written and are easy enough for a beginning reader to tackle, although it is much more fun to have an adult read it with tone and inflection. The book takes a humorous look at what actually happens to kids' bodies as they grow up in literal ways that adults never really think about, from teeth falling out to blisters/dead skin that sloughs off. The illustrations are wonderfully entertaining with lots to look at and they are a snapshot of what a young boy might actually be picturing in his head about what is happening to his body.

It is hard to find good books that entertain and interest boys of this age, as so many books at this age level seem to be aimed at girls, but this book really hits the fun mark in silly ways that boys at this age are masters of. It also shows them that slowing down a few minutes to read can be just as much fun as conquering the universe. I would also highly recommend the sequel "More Parts" for the same reasons, although the third book "Even More Parts" is quite different and takes a simple look at idioms such as "laughing my head off"--it was more intellectual rather than entertaining.

This offbeat book has become a great favorite. We routinely pack it on vacations because it's lightweight and because we can read it several times in succession without boring anyone. It's also a good bedtime book when you need something short. Jokes in the illustrations make them worth looking at more than once, as well. And despite the premise--that the boy is coming to bits--even our nightmare-prone younger child has never been adversely affected.

You can always spot a Tedd Arnold book. His pictures have such a uniqueness to them and his words are simple and cute. He really makes you think. When I read this book to my boys they laugh and then wonder themselves why they have lint in their belly buttons or gray things falling out of their noses.
Wonderfully drawn and filled with exceptional humor. It's almost as though a child wrote it, it's so believable!

We got this book, Parts, from the library and ended up buying one of our own, and Gramma got a copy for her house too! It is SO funny. My 3 yr old and my nephew age 5 LOVE it! No matter how many times we read it they laugh and laugh and mention it again and again!

The next 2 books ... More Parts and Even More Parts, is a little harder for my 3 yr old to understand but the 5 yr old likes it and is working hard to understand. They are both books about Idioms.

My son brought this home from the library and he absolutely loved it. I'm glad he did, not only was it cute and brilliantly illustrated, but it is ever so true! There were a couple things in the book that my son had going on such as peeling toes that I didn't know was normal! Grab this book for your elementary school child, as well as More parts (which I'm ordering now)

I bought this book thinking it would be hilarious. Knowing that we would love it, my children and I read the book for a bedtime story that night. Needless to say, they were not impressed. The only part they liked was the gross part about the brain coming out(of his nose). The concept was cute about the belly button fuzz making the little boy thinking he was falling apart but it just didn't have the kick it needed to make you laugh. Sorry but this is definitely not a book I will be keeping around forever. Want it?? :)

I used to read this book to children for story time. The kids loved it! You could see the range of emotion in their faces as the story progressed, and the look of relief with the conclusion of the story.
This book makes it easy to explain to kids what's going on with their body, and reassures them that they are not falling apart.
The illustrations are outstanding, really attention getting, and tie in perfectly with the story. Without a doubt, the favorite part of youngsters I read this story to. They all wanted to fully examine every image.
This book is guaranteed loads of giggles from your aduience, as well as yourself. :)

This book is humorous, informative and flows well. At times it's a little gross but it's a delightful way of teaching children the "normal" functions of their little bodies at a level they can understand. As adults how many of us expect the worse from our ailments? I wish there was a book like this for us! How many times have we had the medical books out like the boy in this book. I saw this in a book store and flipped through it. After getting it from our local library I knew I had to buy it for one of the many children in my family.

My four year old daughter loved this book - I bought it for her over a year ago, and she still likes to hear the story and look and the pictures. She took the book to preschool with her for sharing and the teachers wanted their own copy for the school! All the kids loved this one! Hilarious! And the illustrations are priceless!

This is such a fun book for little kids, and the pictures (and the concepts) are laugh-out-loud funny for adults. The story is about a boy who has a bit of a complex about his body (he thinks it is falling apart). Any enjoyable bedtime story for little kids and a good learn-to-read book.

I'm not sure who enjoys this book more - me or my son. The story of the little kid who thinks he's falling apart had be laughing like a fool when I first read this in the library of the school I was working in at the time.
We've become fans of Tedd Arnold since buying this book. Parts, as well as any of the Huggly books or Arnold's Green Wilma, are sure to please your little readers!

You'll laugh along with your little ones from the first page to the last. As a mother of three all my children giggle with delight when we read these stories. Parts touches on the simple things that little children think about...like wax in your ear and the fuzz in your belly button. As a preschool teacher my children often ask for this story and parents are always asking where they can get a copy. It's a delightful story that should be in every family library!

I bought this book years ago for my daughter when she was about 4 years old. I have since bought the subsequent ones. I absolutely love this book. I think it is hilarious and makes you think about different sayings we've all grown up with, in a way a child might think. The illustrations are wonderful & colorful! I love these books so much, I've already debated about buying the set for each of my kids to give to their kids!! You will enjoy it!

This book is hilarious! Ted Arnold is a brilliant storyteller-both with words and images. I bought this book for my 2 year old nephew and highly recommend you DON'T read it to a child that age. It freaked him out. I have, however, observed older children reading this book with pleasure. Follow the age recommendation given with the book and the reader will enjoy learning about the body and the humor shared with the protagonist.

If you have just eaten, this book would not be the best to read as a bedtime story. However, it was good for my son, David, who wasn't quie grasping the concept of how he stays in one piece. It was somewhat funny, and I'm glad that I got it for my son, and not me.

My 3 yr. old daughter loves this book. It's very funny, although, at times, a little gross. A little boy thinks he's coming apart when he finds, hair, ear wax, belly button lint, etc. My child now tells me that her stuffing's coming out whenever she has belly button lint, so be prepared for the consequences of reading this hilarious book.

Parts has done more for my 7 year old daughter's reading than any other book... and we've read a lot of books. The way Ted Arnold makes a hilarious poem out an "impending" tragedy is wonderful and unique. My daughter has started to write her own poems....what more can I say? Even though we still love Dr. Seuss, we welcome Ted Arnold. All his books are now on the Xmas list.

This book can be very disturbing for a child who is sensitive or anxious. I am a child therapist and it sent one of my clients into extreme anxiety after the parents got it for him. It took him over a year to get over his fears of something bad happening to his body, that stemmed directly from this book. I wouldn't get it for any child.

I bought this book for my son's birthday, because we had previously read "Even More Parts" by the same author. This book is nowhere near as clever and was a huge disappointment. It is also much shorter and that made it seem even more disappointing.
